E-commerce brands need to be agile enough to identify what converts shoppers into customers and apply it to their online strategy. In this post, we talk about a tactic known as a mobile ready hero image. We share what it is, what it does, and why it’s important for brands on Amazon to utilize it.
What is a Mobile Ready Hero Image?
At Marketplace Strategy, our in-house team of design strategists create mobile ready hero images using the Cambridge template. According to the University of Cambridge, the three pillars of a mobile ready hero image include visual science, proven shopper insight, and consistency. The concept was born out of the need for images on Amazon to convert mobile shoppers.
A mobile ready hero image makes listings easier to scan and provides shoppers with the information they need to make a purchase decision. Research done by the University of Cambridge found hero images increase sales for products on all devices.
Mobile ready hero images identify listings being sold by the brand itself rather than a third party, which can be important to some buyers. But, more importantly, they separate listings from the competitors who aren’t using them.
Why are Mobile Ready Hero Images Important?
Solimo, an Amazon Basics brand, has begun using mobile ready hero images for their product listings. For example, the laundry detergent listing uses a mobile ready hero image to help round out the image library.
This is the first time we’ve seen Amazon use this tactic. Usually, an AmazonBasics brand will the product on a white background for its main image, without any lifestyle images or call outs. If Amazon itself has taken notice of this strategy and finds it valuable enough to use for its own brands, that likely means it’s making a noticeable difference in conversion for the brands employing it as part of their design strategy.
How Marketplace Strategy Uses the Cambridge Template
At Marketplace Strategy, our design team uses the latest methods to help clients stand out from the competition. Creating mobile ready hero images is part of our strategy to give consumers the best experience and all the information they need to convert quickly off a search result page.
